"Confession is an act of honesty and courage - an act of entrusting ourselves, beyond sin, to the mercy of a loving and forgiving God." - Pope St. John Paul II
Because God loves us, He wants our eternal happiness. In His divine love and mercy, God is willing to forgive us when, through sin, we have turned from Him and given to other things the love and attention that should be directed to Him. The reception of God’s forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation allows us to heal our relationship with Him and grow in grace.
It’s important to not just ‘go to confession’, but ‘to make a good confession.’ How do we do this?
1) Prepare for the sacrament with an Examination of Conscience;
2) Approach the sacrament sincerely sorry for your sins;
3) Confess them in all humility and honesty;
4) Be ready t make amends for them;
5) Be determined to live according to God’s will, and to avoid
committing sin in the future.
What is ‘attachment to sin’?
Although a person might still sin, as we all do, or even be inclined to an habitual sin, so long as the attachment to the sin or the desire to commit it is absent from the person's soul, he or she would be considered "free from attachment to sin."
