The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing. The Catechism of the Catholic Church's section on the Anointing of the Sick defines the purpose of the sacrament as "the conferral of a special grace on the Christian experiencing the difficulties inherent in the condition of grave illness or old age." (Catechism, 1527) The primary purpose of the special grace of Anointing of the Sick is to comfort and to strengthen the soul of the sick person.
When someone is facing surgery or serious illness they should call the Parish Office during regular business hours to make arrangements for anointing.
In an emergency, please call the Parish Office (881-0909) to request a priest to visit. [After regular Office Hours, call 589-0824.]
Parishioners who are homebound due to age or illness, and are unable to attend Mass, can contact the Parish Office to make arrangements to receive Holy Communion.
